An 11-week in-depth program covering database administration using SQL Server. Topics include SQL Server architecture; installation and configuration; database management; SQL Server Management Studio; security; integration and reporting services; backup and recovery; performance tuning; and database high availability options. Lectures will be complemented with hands-on exercises. This program will explore the new features of SQL Server 2005.

Each participant will be provided with SQL Server 2005 software. Knowledge of relational database concepts and programming experience are required to take full advantage of the curriculum.

This program makes use of the College of Computing and Digital Media's Course OnLine (COL) technology, which captures all lecture elements (audio, visual, whiteboard, and classroom PC) and makes it available for online viewing. Only enrolled students have access to view this material and it is only available while the program is in session.

The SQL Server Database Administration Program is an accredited course of DePaul University, which follows the quarter system (as opposed to the semester system).

The credit hours are awarded to those who successfully complete the program's academic requirements. Course requirements includes homework and database administration tasks.

Reading materials for certificate programs consist of textbooks and supplementary handouts. Textbook readings are considered preparatory in nature and are typically assigned prior to lectures; supplementary handouts are frequently distributed in class to provide additional information.

Applicants who wish to use the university's DePEPER Plan (DePaul University's Extension Plan for Employer Reimbursement) must return the DePEPER Plan Application to the Institute for Professional Development Office. The university's refund policy allows a return of 100% of tuition (minus a separate $25 registration fee) if the student drops the SQL Server Database Administration Program by September 29, 2008.
